چکیده

Although there is broad agreement on the sorts of things to take into account when measuring functional size, there is a variety of opinion about how to do it. This is partly because several different views of functionality are addressed in functional size measurement. Some are better understood than others. In particular, the “general systems characteristics” (GSC’s) and “value adjustment factor” (VAF) are poorly understood. Our aim is to provide a foundation for research that may improve this aspect of functional size measurement. A survey of the evolution and state of practice of the GSC's and VAF leads us to identify various aspects of software that are important in functional size measurement. We relate these aspects of software to different views of functionality. A spectrum of viewpoints is seen, with core functionality at one end, effort estimation at the other, and different user viewpoints in between. By noting how the GSC’s and VAF contribute to these viewpoints, we see how value may be gained from them, and we identify directions for future research.

Advancing Functional Size Measurement – which size should we measure ?

A tape measure is calibrated showing a standard unit of measure, e.g. the centimetre. But if you use a tape to measure an irregularly shaped object, then you have a choice of sizes that can be measured. The same is true for a piece of software, which has many possible functional sizes. ‘Traditional’ or ‘1 st generation’ Functional Size Measurement (FSM) Methods such as the IFPUG method and its ...

TESTING FOR AUTOCORRELATION IN UNEQUALLY REPLICATED FUNCTIONAL MEASUREMENT ERROR MODELS

In the ordinary linear models, regressing the residuals against lagged values has been suggested as an approach to test the hypothesis of zero autocorrelation among residuals. In this paper we extend these results to the both equally and unequally replicated functionally measurement error models. We consider the equally and unequally replicated cases separately, because in the first case the re...

The Effect of Measurement Errors on the Performance of Variable Sample Size and Sampling Interval Control Chart

The effect of measurement errors on adaptive and non-adaptive control charts has been occasionally considered by researchers throughout the years. However, that effect on the variable sample size and sampling interval (VSSI) control charts has not so far been investigated. In this paper, we evaluate the effect of measurement errors on the VSSI control charts. After a model development, the effe...

3D Reconstruction of a Human Body from Multiple Viewpoints

A human body measurement system using multiple viewpoints is proposed. Whole human body data taken from systems, which have been developed with a few viewpoints, have not been successful at acquiring due to occlusion. It is proposed that data can be successfully obtained by a method using multiple rangefinders correctly. Four compact rangefinders are installed in a pole. Those three pole units,...

Inter-camera Coding of Multi-view Video Using Layered Depth Image Representation

The multi-view video is a collection of multiple videos, capturing the same scene at different viewpoints. If we acquire multi-view videos from multiple cameras, it is possible to generate scenes at arbitrary view positions. It means that users can change their viewpoints freely and can feel visible depth with view interaction. Therefore, the multi-view video can be used in a variety of applica...
